Microsoft/Asobo took to their forums earlier today to announce that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will be released soon on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro console platforms. The iconic 40-year-old series will now be released on the Sony consoles for the very first time as part of Xbox’s push to go multiplatform with their previously exclusive titles like Gears of War, Forza Horizon, and more.
Key Features
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launched for the very first time last year in November for the Xbox and PC platforms. It built upon the previous entry, MSFS2020, with better atmospheric simulation and lighting, better physics, around 120 highly detailed default aircraft (depending on the edition you get), and an all-new career mode. The PS5/Pro version will be quite similar to the Xbox/PC versions in a lot of ways, but will also add PlayStation-specific features to take advantage of its hardware.
First and foremost, the new DualSense controller. Regularly quoted by reviews in the gaming space as one of the best, the latest Sony controller offers unprecedented ways to interact with a game with its haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and built-in microphone and speaker. The PlayStation version of MSFS2024 will take advantage of these features.

Adaptive triggers will respond to the different wind speeds and sloped resistance, while the haptic feedback will let you feel various speeds of the aircraft and the surface type when on the ground. Communications from ATC will play through the speaker, and gyro controls, lightbar support, and a customizable touchpad aim to further enhance the immersion in flight.
By unleashing the full power of the PS5 and PS5 Pro, simmers can, for the first time on PlayStation, fly anywhere in the world at any time of day or year, land at over 40,000 airports, and explore all seven continents in stunning detail. If you are the owner of a PS VR2 headset, simmers can further enhance their immersion through the VR headset and Sense controllers, albeit with a later, but free update sometime in 2026.

Release Date and More
MSFS2024’s career mode will let you experience an unlimited number of missions and activities all over the world. New pilots can also learn how to fly different types of aircraft and then start an aviation career to unlock exciting missions in firefighting, search and rescue, agriculture, and more. In addition to career mode missions, PS5 simmers can also test their skills with landing challenges, rally races, and more.
Coinciding with the PS5 launch, all MSFS2024 simmers will be able to break the sound barrier in America’s first civil supersonic airliner: the Boom Supersonic XB-1. The aircraft is developed in a collaboration between Asobo Studios and Microsoft Game Studios.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro launches on December 8th, 2025. The PS5 version will be supported in conjunction with the Xbox/PC versions with free World and Sim Updates. It will also include the robust in-sim Marketplace filled with products from third-party developers featuring aircraft, airports, and more.
Closing Notes
This is a very exciting time for PS5 owners, as many of Xbox’s incredible franchises make their way onto Sony consoles, letting a whole new player base experience unique games for the first time. MSFS2024 will be no exception as aviation enthusiasts get to experience the iconic 40-year-old series for the first time on PlayStation.
Pre-orders are available now, and doing so will give you early access five days in advance (if you get the Deluxe, Premium Deluxe, or Aviator Editions) as well as a free aircraft: the Northrop T-38A Talon. To get a full idea of what MSFS2024 will bring, check out our article on FSNews.
