The Asobo team has again held a developer stream, which has shown many new things coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Alongside that, a development update recapping this stream has been published on the Flight Simulator website.

The development update is mostly focused on the upcoming release schedule, feedback snapshots and some other announcements. Starting off with the upcoming release schedule, the team aims to release third-party products to the PlayStation 5 marketplace alongside Sim Update 5, which should be released in the coming days. It is worth mentioning that only some add-ons are going to be released for the PlayStation 5 marketplace initially. This is because the add-ons must pass Sony’s platform and performance requirements. PlayStation VR compatibility is also coming with the release of Sim Update 5.

Speaking of Sim Update 5, that should be released throughout this week, most presumably today, on the 24th of April, as that is the last date mentioned in the release date window between 20th and 24th of April. There are still some bugs remaining to be fixed, and the addition of third-party products to PlayStation has slowed the process of updating the simulator.

Some aircraft are expected to get an avionics update in Sim Update 5 in the Aircraft & Avionics Update 4. This means that the ATR series, the Antonov AN-2, Fokker F.VII, Savoia-Marchetti S.55 and Latecoere 631 will get an overhaul, bringing the planes to the modern MSFS 2024 standard.

A new World Update has been announced as well, which will rework Australia in the world of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. This is the twenty-first World Update to be ever released, and there will be more than 30 areas of interest, including updated areas of interest from the previous Australia World Update. For both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024, there will be new landing challenges, low-altitude challenges and rally race challenges coming with this World Update.

A new Local Legend has been announced that is in the works by iniBuilds. The 24th local legend is going to bring the CAC Boomerang to the world of Microsoft Flight Simulator. This is a World War II Australian warbird, and is going to be released in May.

We’re staying on the topic of aircraft, as Expert Series 2 has been announced, and that is going to bring the Piper M600 to the world of Microsoft Flight Simulator. It is being developed by FSReborn, and it is planned to be released in June, during FSExpo. This general aviation aircraft is going to be equipped with the Garmin G3000, which is being developed in collaboration with Working Title. The 3D model is going to include three interior configurations. The plane is going to be unforgiving, with consequences for improper procedures. In case you want a more relaxing experience, there will be an option to turn that down.

The new Expert Series aircraft has been announced as well. The third iteration will bring Embraer 600 Praetor to Microsoft Flight Simulator. This jet is being developed in collaboration of Asobo and Working Title, and is expected to be released in November of this year.

There are still more things to come to Microsoft Flight Simulator throughout this year, as mentioned in the developer roadmap shared in the livestream. Moreover, many bug fixes and improvements are coming in future simulator updates, such as classic fly-by and tower views, as we know them from FSX, are planned for Sim Update 6. Better weather is also on its way, and the full downloadability of default planes is almost complete. The team is still working on improving the performance in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and we may expect better performance results in the coming updates, as well as Sim Update 5.
