Salty Simulations has taken to their Discord to showcase a new Electronic Flight Bag tablet for their Boeing 747-8i add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The EFB, currently under development, introduces various tools to assist virtual pilots with in-flight operations.
Salty EFB Current Development
The EFB’s current functionality includes real-time weather information, performance metrics, and navigation tools. As demonstrated in the preview, the display shows detailed METAR weather reports, giving users access to essential data such as wind speeds and direction, temperature, visibility, cloud coverage, and more for their selected airports. The interface also provides options for setting display brightness and allowing users to toggle between light and dark modes which can improve screen readability in different lighting conditions.

Key Features
One of the notable features seen in the showcase is the tablet’s capability to load PDF files. This includes airport charts, approach plates, parking stand information, and other relevant documents. Hence, allowing users to access crucial flight information directly within the simulator without needing external programs. The ability to view airport layouts, taxiway maps, and other navigation charts will streamline both pre-flight preparation and in-flight procedures. Thus providing pilots with quick access to essential documents.
Though the lack of SimBrief and Navigraph integration may stick out like a sore thumb, the ability to load and view PDFs is a useful addition. This allows for greater flexibility in accessing navigation documents. As the EFB is still under development, it remains to be seen whether these integrations will be added in the future. But the showcased features already suggest a practical and efficient tool for virtual pilots.

Closing Notes
Although the EFB is still under development, the preview suggests that it will be a significant addition to the Salty 747-8i experience. This aims to bring more realism and functionality to the simulator. Salty Simulations has not yet announced a release date, but we can expect further updates as development progresses.
