SimWorks Studios recently took to their Facebook page to announce the release of the Van’s RV-8/8A for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The airplane is very customizable with different instrument configurations.

SimWorks Studios states that their Van’s RV-8 is manufactured under license by Van’s Aircraft Inc. and in collaboration with RV-8 pilots. The aircraft offers various configurations, including the choice between a glass cockpit or steam gauges, as well as between a taildragger or tricycle landing gear. Additionally, you can select between a 2-bladed and 3-bladed propeller. Each configuration features distinct performance values and sound sets, all of which were recorded from real RV-8s.

Furthermore, the RV-8 by SimWorks Studios includes the Working Title G3X and GTN 430, with support for the PMS GTN and TDS GTNXi add-ons. The aircraft is perfect for aerobatics, as well as leisurely sightseeing. The visuals depict the inclusion of a smoke system and a realistically modelled cabin with high-quality textures.

Real-life Van’s RV-8

The Van’s RV-8 is a tandem two-seat, single-engine, low-wing aircraft. It is sold in kit form by Van’s Aircraft, which means each plane is homebuilt. The original RV-8 is equipped with conventional tail-dragger landing gear, while the RV-8A version features tricycle landing gear. It was developed from the Van’s RV-4 and is just slightly bigger.

The first RV-8 flew in 1995 and was showcased at Oshkosh in the same year. It has a length of 6.40 meters and a wingspan of 7.32 meters. As of November 2022, a total of 1611 RV-8 and RV-8A aircraft have been constructed and flown.
