LAND3 Simulations released the virtual Runway Awareness and Advisory System (vRAAS) for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The team is also behind the “StableApproach” tool, which was designed as a Flight Data Monitoring system for XP12, and yet here they are, with another tool, but for MSFS.
What is RAAS?
RAAS, standing for Runway Awareness and Advisory System, is part of the aircraft that gives the pilot vocal information about their state on the ground before departure and on arrival to avoid unnecessary incidents. That could include saying the runway numbers they are approaching on a taxiway, warning about runway end coming shortly, not having correct flaps, insufficient runway length, or calling out the runway numbers the aircraft is approaching on arrival.
Back to the virtual RAAS
LAND3 Simulations brings this system to the MSFS, claiming that “every feature operatesย exactlyย like its real counterpart and can be easily customized or disabled to suit your preferences”.
The add-on offers full compatibility with all airports, including the modded ones, and supports all aircraft types. Their website has a full compatibility list, including whether it supports voice or display for that particular aircraft. You can also select your desired callout voice between female and male.
If you are wondering if vRAAS lowers your FPS, the team says that they havenโt observed any noticeable impact on FPS.
Available Callouts
vRAAS features aural warnings not only of the actual RAAS system but also about being too fast, unstable or too high on the approach path. It even announces if it works properly with the “RUNWAY AWARENESS OKAY – METER / FEETโ or “RUNWAY AWARENESS INOP.โ Here are some callout examples that you will receive during your flight:
- โAPPROACHING RUNWAY 25 LEFTโ
- โON RUNWAY 25 LEFT. FLAPS! FLAPS!”
- โSHORT RUNWAY! SHORT RUNWAY!โ
- โAPPROACHING 25 LEFT, 1400M AVAILABLEโ
- โTOO HIGH, TOO HIGHโ
vRAAS is now available and can be purchased from the Contrail website for $15.46. If you are interested in other vRAAS or other “aircraft system” related news, make sure to follow our upcoming posts.
