X-Plane 12.2.1 Released with Expanded Hardware Support

Laminar Research has released version 12.2.1 of X-Plane, an update shaped in part by community input. Central to this release is a new set of art assets selected through user voting, allowing scenery and Gateway artists to work with expanded tools and objects that reflect popular demand.

A new custom-built airport, Zermatt Helipad (LSEZ), has been added, along with updated Gateway Airports and a wide range of new library objects. These include fire trucks, cherry pickers, construction vehicles, police SUVs, grass runway markings, compass roses, colored polygons, hangars, utility sheds, Class F jetways, mobile helipads, angled roofs, and new apron lights. Weather effects have been applied to all flat roof objects.

A new accessibility setting allows users to disable mouse wheel zoom separately for internal and external views, with optional modifier key support to reduce unintentional input. Birdstrike behavior has been revised so that birds will only cause damage if the relevant failure setting is enabled.

Hardware support has been expanded. This version includes full integration for Thrustmaster’s SOL-R 1 Flightstick, as well as support for MOZA’s AB9 FFB base, MH16 Flightstick, MTP Throttle, and MTLP Panel. SimFlight Services’ rotAIR modules are also now supported, offering additional options for high-fidelity input control.

ATC has been enhanced with support for continuous circuit operations, including touch-and-go training. The “Resume Flight” feature now returns users to the last airport where they were grounded, rather than the previous overflown location. Various translation issues have also been addressed.

Two legacy features have been removed: the checklist system and the text file feature, both of which were no longer in use. On Linux, the update resolves an issue affecting Steam installations managed through snap packages. However, Valve continues to list snap installations as unsupported.
