MM Simulations, hot on the heels of its previous release, has launched Kavala International Airport (LGKV) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. First teased nearly two weeks ago on the developer’s Discord server, this Greek destination is described by them as a “hidden gem waiting to be discovered.” Arrivals into Kavala may pose a mild challenge for simmers, as Runway 05/23 is located close to the coastline and is served only by NDB and VOR/DME non-precision approaches. However, its scenic setting makes it an exciting destination for both pilots and passengers.
About Kavala Airport
Kavala International Airport “Alexander the Great” (LGKV/KVA) lies tucked away in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece. The city of Kavala is known for its stunning coastal setting, nestled between the slopes of Mt. Symbolo and the Aegean Sea. The original Kavala National Airport began operations in 1952 near the village of Amygdaleonas. However, October of 1981 saw a new airport open near the town of Chrysoupoli, where it now operates. The relocation largely improved services to the nearby island of Thasos and the city of Xanthi.

While the airport was initially used for domestic flights, in December 1987, it was renamed Kavala International Airport. This change reflected the subsequent development of the terminal building and its surrounding infrastructure, of which extensive works began in 1998. Today, the airport reflects a blend of modern and legacy infrastructure, with modern facilities facilitating the growth of the Greek region.
The airport, now operated by European giant Fraport AG, has seen significant investments and resulting enhancements, as part of Fraport’s €440 million airport development program, revamping 14 of Greece’s airports. Completed in 2021, Kavala’s terminal received a major refurbishment, including a terminal expansion of more than 1,900 m², part of a broader redevelopment completed in early 2021.
It now sees regular scheduled and charter flights from across Europe, with the airport accommodating narrow-body airliners such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 series. Aegean Airlines operates frequent flights to and from Athens, while seasonal routes connect Kavala to destinations across Europe, served by carriers including TUI, Eurowings, and Condor.
About MM Simulations’ Kavala Rendition
MM Simulations brings a highly detailed and up-to-date recreation of the real-world location to Microsoft Flight Simulator, designed with immersion and realism in mind, particularly for VATSIM users. The scenery features a true-to-scale 1:1 airport layout, enhanced with handcrafted ground textures, custom decals, and intricately modelled landside structures.

Dynamic lighting and carefully placed custom vegetation help bring the airport to life in all seasons and times of day, with “enhanced night lighting for immersive evening ops”, according to the product description. This rendition reflects the latest developments at the real-world counterpart. The scenery development team has meticulously modelled the modernised terminal interior, with performance kept in mind to ensure stable frame rates.
Kavala International Airport by MM Simulations is now available for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. The scenery can be purchased from SimMarket, Contrail, Orbx, Aerosoft, and Flightsim.to for €15.99.
