MXI Design has officially released Stockholm Västerås Airport (ESOW) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. The scenery recreates the Swedish regional airport located approximately 110 kilometres west of Stockholm. Although outside Stockholm County, the airport is included in the STO metropolitan IATA code grouping. A dedicated preview video was released at the same time, highlighting the airport environment, terminal interiors, and night lighting in operational scenarios.

Airport Background and Operations
Stockholm Västerås Airport, also known as Hässlö Flygplats, handled 78,652 passengers in 2024, ranking it as Sweden’s 18th-busiest airport. The field supports regional operations, general aviation activity, and year-round pilot training through an on-site flight school. Its location makes it a secondary access point to the greater Stockholm region.
The airport grounds are also home to the Västerås Flygmuseum, which presents a collection of historic Swedish military and civilian aircraft. The museum features helicopters, engines, and aviation-related artefacts that document the development of Swedish aerospace technology. Static displays and themed exhibitions provide an immersive experience for aviation enthusiasts.
Scenery Features
The add-on aims to deliver a real-world replica of ESOW with a highly detailed terminal interior and exterior. High-resolution PBR textures, animated terminal objects, and lidar-based terrain optimisation are included to ensure accurate elevation profiles and runway contours. A custom CGL aerial base further enhances ground realism across the airport environment.

Custom taxiway light models and bespoke night lighting have been implemented to reflect realistic atmospheric conditions. Dedicated snow coverage is integrated for winter operations, maintaining consistency with seasonal environments. For users without GSX, custom ground service vehicles operate across the apron.

Dynamic GSX-compatible terminal doors are included and can trigger during boarding and deboarding procedures. A dedicated GSX profile is provided to streamline ground services and passenger handling. The Västerås Flygmuseum is fully modelled with walk-through capability and detailed interior assets.
