The Microsoft and Asobo Studio teams came together to release the 20th world update or Microsoft Flight Simulator and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Alongside the new World Update, improving coverage of Japan, a new Local Legend has been released as well – the NAMC YS-11.

About the World Update 20: Japan

The 20th World Update focuses on Japan again, and is expected to basically replace the old, and the very first World Update released. This updated iteration of Japan is developed in partnership with Microsoft, providing Bing data and Gaya Simulations. This update includes 23 areas of interest.

The mentioned areas also include new photogrammetry cities, such as Kyoto, Osaka, Sapporo and overhauled Tokyo. Among the 67 recreated points of interest, we may find the Osaka Castle, Akinada Bridge, Enoshima Sea Candle or the Fukuoka Tower.

New airfields have been added as well, including the Hokkaido Spaceport, Kitakyushu Airport, Sado Airport and Rishiri Airport. Those who want to take a more casual approach to discovering Japan will have the opportunity to take new Discovery Flights, taking you to Chubu-Sangaku National Park and to the Island of Honshu, as well as Mount Fuji.

The World Update is completely free of charge, and you can install it through the Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace.

Japanese Commercial Turboprop Now In Your Hangar!

The twin-turboprop YS-11 was developed shortly after World War II by Nihon Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation (NAMC). Its story leads to the Japanese government’s ambition of Japan to enter the aviation market with its own aircraft, creating this passenger plane, which got certified for flying in 1965.

The NAMC YS-11 has been considered reliable, and it served both civil and military service during its lifespan. The plane was efficient, powered by Rolls-Royce Dart Mk.542 engines, each delivering 3060 horsepower. It had a maximum range of 1485 miles and a service ceiling of 23000 feet.

This aircraft is now available in both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and MSFS 2024, and comes in two variants, either passenger or VIP charter, followed by a number of beautiful liveries. The NAMC YS-11 can be purchased via the MSFS Marketplace for €19.99.
