The Orbx team has recently announced a new version of the Olbia Airport scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator, which was released earlier today. The developer announced the release through their Facebook page and showed some final images of the scenery as well.
Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (LIEO) is the main international airport serving the island of Sardinia, Italy. It used to be the primary operating airline for the Italian low-cost Air Italy during its time of operation.
The airport was initially opened as a military base in 1921 and a seaplane base was present as well. Commercial flights began here in 1963 when Alisarda was formed. Jet flights started in 1972 and with the arrival of the 21st century, the airport went through significant reconstruction with a new terminal and other facilities.
Currently, the airport is mostly operated during the summer season, with flights to Athens, Dublin, Milan, Perugia, Paris-CDG and other major European cities, with the current largest operators being easyJet and Volotea.
Developed by Matteo Veneziani, this scenery completely changes how the airport in the simulator looks and there is nothing left of the previous version of this famous Olbia Airport scenery. The textures, models and details were all remastered, a 3D terminal interior was added and new high-definition GSE vehicles are also present.
Network flyers are surely going to appreciate the presence of the up-to-date airport layout and high-quality ground textures for the best possible ground operations. This means that the new extended runway and a new taxiway are also present.
