ATR Receives Update with Massive Improvements for Microsoft Flight Simulator

The highly anticipated ATR released for Microsoft Flight Simulator two weeks ago, receiving a mixed reception, has seen its first update attempting to improve the overall experience.

Following the massively hyped release of the ATR, the community received a product that, while being the most detailed ATR available to flight simmers, still failed to meet expectations for those expecting a complete and cohesive package. “It fails to bring everything together neatly” is a relatable sentiment for those who felt the package had incredibly detailed elements brought down by various issues scattered around the product. This first update attempts to reign in the bugs and problems experienced by flight simmers and introduce new details missing from the original release.

Developers released an extensive changelog highlighting a specific focus on fixing systems issues. Most of the list pertained to fixes in the Flight Computer, which upon release, was incredibly unstable and caused frequent crashes to desktop. Fixes unrelated to stability included fixes to invalid data points or incorrect calculations made by flight computers. Flight simmers should experience an improved flight computer system and a more consistent autopilot.

Additionally, upon release, there were reports of engine and torque management system issues. The developers have released fixes for high idle in cruise flight as well as rectifying issues with the throttle and gust lock mechanics. This includes fixing the aircraft’s eagerness to over-rotate on the takeoff roll.

If this trend continues, flight simmers may be able to keep their hopes up for a product that gets better with time. The ATR is an extremely exciting product with flight simmers who primarily fly regional hops; for those, this update should be indicative of a product committed to meeting the expectations anticipated before the release.
