Burning Blue Design has unveiled its latest scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator, Welshpool Airport (EGCW), also known as Mid Wales Airport. Fully compatible with both MSFS 2020 and 2024, this release brings the scenic heart of the Severn Valley and the historic market town of Welshpool to life in the sim.
Clear Prop!
Welshpool Airport—known locally as Mid Wales Airport—offers a unique blend of rural character and aviation versatility. Established in the early 1990s by local pilot and ex-RAF engineer Bob Jones, the airfield began as a modest grass strip cut from farmland in Powys County. Thanks to Jones’s vision and determination, Welshpool quickly evolved into a fully licensed civil aerodrome, expanding to feature a paved runway, modern hangars, and a welcoming café.

Today, the airport is a hub for a range of aviation activities, including flight training, scenic tours, microlight and helicopter operations, and private charters. It is also home to the Wales Air Ambulance, providing essential emergency medical coverage throughout the region. With a 1,020-metre asphalt runway, full pilot facilities, and panoramic views of the rolling Welsh countryside, Welshpool Airport stands out as a gateway for general aviation in Mid Wales. Welshpool is also the perfect starting point for exploring Powis Castle and other local landmarks.

Scenery Features
A small but well-established developer in the MSFS community, Burning Blue Design is known for highly detailed UK airfields such as Tatenhill, Farnborough and Sibson. Their sceneries focus on realism and local character, and Welshpool is the latest addition to their growing portfolio.

Burning Blue Design’s Welshpool scenery is designed for both MSFS 2020 and 2024 with a strong focus on realism and immersion. The team has created over 100 custom 3D objects with full PBR textures, and all runways, taxiways, and signage have been reproduced based on on-site research. Detailed interiors, animated hangar doors, and dynamic windsocks and flags all add to the atmosphere, along with animated spectators and accurate night lighting. High-resolution ground textures and support for dynamic weather complete the package. It is important to note however that certain landmarks will only appear if World Update XVII: UK & Ireland is installed in your simulator.

The Welshpool airport scenery by Burning Blue Design is available now for both MSFS 2020 and 2024 at the price of £8.95. You can purchase it and find more details, including feature highlights and compatibility information, directly on Burning Blue Design’s official website.
