Developer Carenado has released the Dornier DO228 utility aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Designed for regional transport and demanding operations, the rugged German turboprop features detailed systems, realistic flight dynamics, and support for Career Mode missions.
First entering service in the 1980s, the Dornier DO228 is a highly versatile twin-engine turboprop designed for operations in challenging environments. Owing to a pair of Garrett TPE331 turboprop engines and its supercritical wing design, the DO228 is classified as a STOL aircraft. This ability to operate from short, unprepared runways, as well as its low operational costs, has made it a trusted workhorse in remote regions. Today, the primary user is the Indian military, operating over 100 units, a number of which have been built domestically under license by Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL). With production of an NG-version having begun in 2016, the Dornier’s presence in skies around the world seems to be secured for the foreseeable future.

Supporting multiple configurations, including VIP, cargo, medevac, and skydiving, Carenado’s newest release allows flight simmers to experience the full scope of the Dornier’s operational capabilities. The aircraft features the highly detailed cockpit we’ve come to expect from the developer, along with a GNS 530, GTN 750 compatibility, a Bendix/King KFC-250 autopilot, weather radar, and functioning circuit breakers, among other features.

These features, combined with its excellent short takeoff and landing performance, offer an authentic experience for pilots looking to take their flying into more demanding environments, while the aircraft’s wide range of applications ensures there’s no shortage of opportunities to put the Dornier through its paces. Carenado has included 14 liveries, among them several military and coast guard variants.
The Carenado DO228 is available now for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 exclusively on the MSFS marketplace. More information and a detailed list of features can be found on the product page on the Carenado website.
