iniBuilds Brings Updated L-1011 Tristar to iniBuilds Store and Announces New Variant Pack

IniBuilds updates the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar to v1.0.8 with navigation, autopilot, and PMS improvements, and offers a first look at the upcoming Operations Pack expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Developer iniBuilds has updated the Lockheed L-1011 Tristar to v1.0.8 and brought the iconic trijet to the iniBuilds store. As shared by mattY on the iniBuilds forums, this update brings further improvements to navigation logic, systems reliability, and overall operational stability for the classic widebody. Lastly, the developer gave a first look at an upcoming military-focused expansion, titled the Operations Pack, broadening the aircraft’s scope in the simulator.

This move comes several months after the Lockheed’s release on the Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace and is accompanied by a limited, one-week 15% discount to celebrate the store launch. The announcement also contains order transfer instructions for previous Tristar owners who bought the aircraft on the Marketplace.

V1.0.8—Steady Refinements

After steady post-launch refinements and fixes since the aircraft’s release in late March, v1.0.8 is centered on refining core systems. The autopilot has been fine-tuned to address erroneous or inconsistent behaviour across modes, for a more reliable experience in all phases of flight.

More interestingly, with its period-correct, fully simulated navigational system being a major draw for the vintage jet, iniBuilds has continued its efforts to make INS navigation in the Tristar even more realistic. During long-haul operations, the system now continuously calculates the aircraft’s position along a great-circle route instead of flying a fixed bearing calculated at the start of each leg. This mirrors real-life INS behaviour, where the aircraft’s track is continuously calculated and updated while flying each leg. Users will notice fuel-burn figures and routings aligning more closely with those calculated in the flight plan.

Additionally, the Performance Management System (PMS) has been overhauled with a focus on usability and overall quality-of-life improvements. Its behaviour now more closely reflects the current phase of flight, while PERF MGT interactions operate with greater consistency, delivering a more authentic and predictable experience.

Beyond Passenger Ops

The most surprising part of this announcement, however, was the introduction of the upcoming Operations Pack. As a paid expansion for the Tristar, it will broaden the L-1011 mission scope to include air-to-air refuelling, strategic freighter, and medical & humanitarian configurations.

iniBuilds stresses that these variants will go beyond mere visual conversions, with plans for variant-specific controls and flight engineer functionality. The Operations Pack will be available either as a standalone purchase or as an upgrade for existing Tristar owners. So far, no release date has been set.

The Lockheed L-1011 Tristar is available in the iniBuilds Store and the Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace. If you would like to read the release notes, you can do so on the iniBuilds forums. If you are more interested in modern airliners, read about the upcoming iniBuilds A380 here.
