Orbx Announces Atlanta Airport for MSFS

The developer Orbx has announced a new major international airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator, this time, bringing their own rendition of the busiest airport in the United States and in the world, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. They have made this announcement earlier today through the Orbx forums.

Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport (KATL) is a major international hub and main base for Delta Air Lines, making it an important place for both real-world and virtual aviation. This scenery is being developed by the same people who have created Orbx Olbia, Burbank and Sacramento airports for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The team at Orbx promises a detailed rendition of this airport, with an up-to-date 2025 layout, reflecting changes of the real-world counterpart. To ensure maximum airport fidelity, no random objects have been placed, and everything from top to bottom has been thoroughly documented and accordingly placed. The 3D models not only include the exterior but also the interior of the airport. All of that is covered in highly detailed textures with hand-crafted corrections.

Speaking of the airport layout, the taxiways, runways, and other airside objects are accurate to the real world, with their proportions and materials. They also include realistic wear and tear using custom ground polygons. The airside will also include custom ground service vehicles unique to this airport.

Those who use AI traffic in their simulators will be glad to hear that Orbx also included correct airline assignments for gates, ensuring highly realistic AI behaviour on this scenery.

Lastly, the scenery is promised to be well-optimised, with no unnecessary polygons and good texture optimisation.

So far, we don’t have much information about the scenery, and things are still subject to change. This Atlanta Airport scenery should be released soon.
