Parallel 42 Releases Widows Peak – Native for MSFS 2024

Developer Parallel 42 announces the release of their Widows Peak backcountry scenery in a new native form for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

Parallel 42 (also known as //42) has just dropped an exciting new release for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, introducing Widows Peak as its first scene to have been fully rebuilt natively in the latest sim platform. Announced via their official blog on February 19, 2025, this bush pilot’s paradise is now available for both PC and Xbox users, promising an immersive backcountry experience unlike anything seen before in the franchise. Available at the Parallel 42 store and free for current owners of Widows Peak for MSFS (2020), this release marks a significant milestone as the developer leverages MSFS 2024’s enhanced capabilities to deliver a richer, more detailed environment.

Set in Wyoming, USA, 25 miles north of Circle B Ranch, Widows Peak is a gorgeous and challenging airstrip that tests your skills while providing the perfect backdrop for stunning screenshots. The scene boasts high-fidelity 3D models and custom vegetation, with textures optimized for MSFS 2024’s advanced rendering engine. According to the release notes, Jeppeson2001, Parallel 42’s Head of Scenery Design, has poured meticulous effort into crafting a landscape that feels “next level,” featuring sharper details, dynamic lighting, and an atmosphere that breathes life into every landing.

Whether you’re touching down for a quick stop or setting up camp, //42 has designed this strip to pair perfectly with its companion add-ons such as the Campout utility or the recently released Juice Goose UTV, enhancing the off-runway exploration vibe that Parallel 42 is known for. As the first native scene for MSFS 2024 from the developer, it showcases what’s possible when add-ons are built from the ground up for the new simulator, rather than simply adapted—as we’ve seen more of to date.

The original Widows Peak for MSFS2020

Looking back, the original Widows Peak was released for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 in October 2024, offering bush pilots a rugged Wyoming airstrip to conquer. It quickly earned praise for its challenging terrain and detailed scenery, becoming a community favourite with custom 3D assets and a backcountry aesthetic that appealed to the sim’s more adventurous flyers. However, with MSFS 2024’s upgraded features—like enhanced textures and dynamic environmental effects—Parallel 42 has redesigned the scene from the ground up to elevate the experience by showcasing the full capabilities of the new simulator.

Owners of the 2020 version will be pleased to note that this newest release is currently available as a no-cost upgrade. //42 also maintains a handy compatibility table for their line-up here. //42 Widows Peak for MSFS 2024 can be purchased on the Parallel 42 Store, and owners of the scene for MSFS 2020 should use the code “24WIDOWS” at checkout to ensure they get the rebuilt Widows Peak for free.
