Black Square has announced the imminent release of its Baron and Bonanza light aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. Both aircraft are set to launch on 28th October, featuring in-depth simulations across six airframes. They will be available as individual or bundled purchases.
The Baron and Bonanza Aircraft
The Baron and Bonanza, designed and produced by Beechcraft, are light general aviation aircraft. Although the Bonanza is a single-engine aircraft, it later inspired the twin-engine Baron in 1961. However, the latter hasn’t achieved the same level of success as the Bonanza, which remains one of the most-produced aircraft in history and continues to be built today. More than 18,000 Bonanzas of all variants have been constructed since 1947, earning it the title of having the longest continuous production run of any airplane in history.

Both aircraft include three main variants, each building on the success of its predecessor. The Baron features the 55, 56, and 58 base variants, with sub-variants for each. With a larger fuselage and more power, the now-solely produced Baron 58 proved to be far more popular with charter and cargo operators. The Bonanza features the 35, 33, and 36 variants, of which only the Model 36 continues in production. This variant is a stretched Model 33, popular among private individuals, companies, and air charter operators.
Black Square’s Rendition of the Aircraft
Unlike Black Square’s Steam Gauge Overhaul series, the Baron and Bonanza Professional each include three highly detailed, fully modelled aircraft with custom sounds by Boris Audio Works. Pilots can expect “one of the most technically advanced aircraft simulations for Microsoft Flight Simulator,” as the product introduces several advanced features. For example, 3D gauges are affected by physics, meaning they may require a tap on the glass to free them if they become stuck. The simulation’s complexity is most evident in its reciprocating engine model, showcased in Just Flight’s First Look video.

The add-ons also include advanced turbocharger, pressurisation, and cabin temperature simulations, reflecting Black Square’s advancements in MSFS development. A new tablet interface allows users to configure options, toggle ground services, manage payload, control over 100 failures, and monitor engines, electrical schematics, environmental control systems, and their wear. A range of radio navigation systems is also available, representing several eras of the aircraft’s history from the Bendix KNS-81 RNAV system to the modern Garmin GTN suite.
The Baron package includes three airframes: the B58, the turbocharged B58TC, and the pressurised B58P. The Bonanza includes the A36, the aftermarket turbo-normalised A36TC, and the turboprop-converted A36TP. Both products come with multiple unique interiors and liveries.
The Black Square Baron and Bonanza will be available to purchase from the Just Flight store, either individually for £32.99 (GBP) or as a bundle for £44.99. Existing owners of Black Square’s Steam Gauge Overhaul for either aircraft will receive a 20% discount.
