Carenado, a well-known developer of general aviation add-ons for X-Plane, Prepar3D, and the Microsoft Flight Simulator series, has released a new aircraft for MSFS 2024: the Cessna 172.

The add-on represents the first generation of one of aviation’s most recognized aircraft. The C172 is modeled to reflect the original design that introduced thousands of pilots to the skies. It recreates the early design of the aircraft while also including modern avionics options, allowing it to be used in both classic and current operational contexts.

Carenado’s version includes a range of customization options and systems. Users can select between 8 included liveries plus a blank white version. Avionics options cover the Garmin GNS430, GTN650 compatibility, and associated equipment such as the GI 106A VOR/LOC/GPS, GMA 340 audio panel, and GTX 330 transponder. An S-Tec 55X autopilot is also modeled. The package includes Carenado’s RealXperience features, such as startup animations, panel vibrations, and instrument needle behavior. Additional functionality includes an EFB app for switching navigation systems, realistic flight dynamics, HQ sound design, and operational panel circuit breakers.

The Cessna 172 Skyhawk first entered service in the mid-1950s and has become the most produced aircraft in aviation history, with more than 44,000 units built. Known for its four-seat layout, high-wing design, and approachable flight dynamics, it has long been regarded as a standard trainer and a reliable general aviation aircraft. With a 145 HP engine, cruising speed of about 105 knots, and a range of more than 485 nautical miles, the C172 established a balance of performance and accessibility that remains influential today.

The Carenado Cessna 172 for MSFS 2024 is available exclusively through the in-game Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace.
