On the first day of Christmas, Mango Studios, a renowned sound pack and scenery developer for X-Plane, took to their Discord server to announce a new product currently in development: the ATR 72-500 for X-Plane 12.

About the Product
The product is being developed in partnership with Alsie Express, a Danish airline operating two ATR aircraft. Mango Studios has also stated that the project benefits from contributions by volunteers from around the world, helping to ensure a high level of authenticity and accuracy.
According to the announcement, the ATR 72-500 represents a major milestone for Mango Studios, marking their first-ever full aircraft project. The development team emphasized their commitment to realism, quality, immersion, and innovation throughout the aircraft’s design.

Planned features for the ATR 72-500 include a fully custom FMOD sound set, a highly detailed 3D aircraft model, fully custom and realistic aircraft systems, an integrated electronic flight bag (EFB), high-resolution textures, and smooth custom-built animations. Mango Studios notes that every aspect of the aircraft is being carefully crafted using real-world photographic references, pilot feedback, and extensive research.
About the Aircraft
The ATR 72-500 typically seats between 64 and 72 passengers, depending on the cabin configuration, and is well-known for its low operating costs and reduced environmental footprint. Its turboprop design allows it to consume significantly less fuel than comparable regional jets, making it a popular choice for airlines operating frequent, short-distance flights.
Widely used across Europe, Asia, and other regions, the ATR 72-500 has proven especially effective for regional carriers serving smaller airports. Many operators value the aircraft for its versatility, strong short-field performance, and ability to operate efficiently in challenging weather and terrain conditions.

While the aircraft remains in a work-in-progress state, Mango Studios shared an initial set of preview screenshots alongside the announcement. The studio confirmed that more details, previews, and development updates will be released as work on the project continues.
No release date or pricing information has been announced at this time. You can watch the trailer and more renders of the cockpit here.
