Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has received its latest update to Sim Update 5.1, two months after the main 5.0 update. Much like its beta release, this update primarily focuses on performance and stability improvements, along with various bug fixes and platform-specific enhancements.
As detailed by community manager Chewwy94 on the official Microsoft Flight Simulator forums, the update provides improvements related to memory usage and various crash fixes aimed at increasing overall stability. These include better handling of terrain degradation when memory is running low and improved texture streaming behavior under high memory pressure.

Career mode has received quality-of-life improvements, with the simulator now taking into account the availability of runway lighting systems at departure and arrival airports, allowing operations to continue into nighttime hours when suitable infrastructure is present. Elsewhere, firefighting missions now see a corrected burn ground effect, and PS5 users no longer encounter a bug that prevented access to certain cargo missions.
Finally, the update offers improvements for third-party developers and add-ons, including a fix for traffic pushback issues and enhanced WASM compatibility on PlayStation 5.
