Microsoft Flight Simulator Development Update (10.09)

It’s Thursday, which means Asobo Studios has posted another development update on their blog. This week’s post covers many different things, from bugs and fixes to new screenshots and new Marketplace addons.

Patch #2

Whilst we don’t know what version number it’s going to be, the team refers to the next update as “Patch #2”. Patch number two comes shortly after the first one, released not long ago. The first patch mainly focused on issues that people had with downloading and installing the sim. Asobo wanted to get as many people to use the simulator, before fixing issues in the simulator itself. This update was a more technical one.

A full changelog is not publically known yet, but some highlists were posted in the blog and are also posted below. And it’s a long list. Patch number two will focus on the gameplay or, well, “simulationplay”? You get the point. There’s no part of the game that does not get updated or improved with this update. ATC, weather, cameras, systems, the list goes on.

this patch is currently going through the final testing phases. It is expected to be released within 10 days from now. That is before September 21st.

Current Bugs & Issues

The blog post contained a list of the biggest problems people have with the simulator right now. There were several problems with the Live Weather feature. Sometimes it didn’t show any weather, sometimes it gave an error, sometimes the weather was not accurate. Quite some people have had an issue where the winds would go to 225/03. A three-knot wind from exactly the Southwest, that is.

The ATC Phraseology was bad according to many right from the start. The in-simulator ATC was often far from what is used in real-life or on VATSIM. Some performance issues are also being looked into. The list is of course only a snapshot of what Asobo is working on and there is more underway.

Marketplace

The Marketplace that comes with the game has had several issues from release. One of them was that products would take a long time to release on there. Kos International Airport, by GayaSimulations released on August 23rd, but has only now been included in the Marketplace. There are currently 10 developers that have addons for sale on the Marketplace, and there are more to come as more and more developers are finishing their first products for the simulator.

Even though it is really easy to install addons through the Marketplace, developers lose a significant percentage of revenue. If you want addons earlier and you want the money to go to the developers, it is still recommended to buy from the developer’s website itself. You can find a list below of the addons that have recently become included in the Marketplace
