A new Development Update about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (MSFS 2024), which has recently been released was shared, covering a plethora of topics the community has been seeking answers to, with even insights and a developer stream that includes important information about the future of the simulator.
The Developer Stream
The developer stream was broadcast live through Twitch on December 5th, hosted by Jayne, Sebastian Wloch, Jorg Neumann and Martial Bossard.
The stream started with an apology for the Microsoft Flight Simulator’s 2024 launch. Despite that, the team is thankful for those who remained supportive even during the tough start. The issue with connection was caused by the simulator’s CDN, which both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and 2020 share. The first day saw over one hundred billion package requests, which the CDN couldn’t handle.
As a form of apology, the simulator is going to receive four new upcoming aircraft for free. This includes the already disclosed Cessna 185F, Cap-4 Paulistinha, and two more are going to be announced soon.
The next World Update that is going to be released is World Update 19, covering Brazil in both Microsoft Flight Simulators. This World Update is going to include 7 new airports, 75 custom points of interest and four detailed cities.
The two new aircraft – the Cap-4 Paulistinha, which is going to be the Local Legend released along with the Brazilian World Update and the Cessna 185F were also previewed in the livestream.
Bugs and Wishlist of the Community
To start things off, the Asobo Studio team wants to improve Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 as much as possible and make it appealing to the community’s demand. With that in mind, the team started progressing on the current bugs the simulator has and disclosed what can we expect in the near future.
Some bugs were already partially fixed with the recent patches, for example, the too-bright airport night lighting, often crash to desktop errors, and oversaturated turbulence in career mode.
The team also investigates flap speeds of multiple aircraft, overly sensitive mouse freelook and unresponding control axis. Upcoming updates should see resolution for the toolbar and EFB missing in the VR interface.
Unfortunately, though, the excessive VRAM usage and blurry texture issues were declared hardware limitations from the user’s side. Sebastian Wloch explained that there is no way to fix this problem, as this is caused by the speed of transferring data from RAM to VRAM, and the only way to avoid this is by maintaining optimal VRAM usage levels.
With the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and its nature of being completely streamed from the cloud, a lot of people from the community started demanding the possibility of downloading aircraft and their unencryption. This is because currently, MSFS 2024 aircraft are completely unmoddable, with liveries not being available as well. In general, this function is considered an essential feature of Flight Simulators, and that is modding. The same applies to readable airport data.
Some people also request a better user interface, which, according to many, has too many animations and is thus slow in general. The Flight Simulator 2024 team is looking into this problem, along with improving weather simulation and broken seasons.
