Parallel 42 has just released two updates for its Typical Weather add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, introducing behaviour refinements and addressing a critical initialisation issue affecting some users. The updates are available now via the developer’s website, with PC and Xbox Marketplace versions currently awaiting approval.
Refined Transitions and Interaction Changes
Version 2026.4.1.23 introduces a series of adjustments to how Typical Weather behaves during flight. Wind transitions during inflight mode changes have been slowed to reduce the risk of autopilot interference, while cloud transitions continue to operate normally. Additional performance optimisations have also been applied during weather transitions, alongside refinements to variable-duration transitions depending on mode and automatic updates.

User interaction with atypical weather has been simplified in this update. A single press on atypical weather buttons now randomises conditions, while a long press enables location-based weather, removing the need for a separate toggle in the settings. Interface clarity has also been improved, with preset naming updated to explicitly reference “Default MSFS Live Weather” and additional information added to help screens to better explain random sequence behaviour.
Initialisation Issue Resolved
A follow-up update, version 2026.5.1.17, addresses an issue where Typical Weather would not initialise correctly for some users. According to the developer, this problem has now been fully resolved. The fix is available immediately via Parallel 42’s own distribution platform.

The update has also been submitted to the Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace for both PC and Xbox users. Availability on the Marketplace will depend on Microsoft’s standard testing and approval process. No further functional changes are included in this release, which is intended purely as a stability fix.
About Typical Weather
Typical Weather is positioned as an alternative approach to Microsoft Flight Simulator’s live weather system rather than a preset-based solution. The add-on generates location- and season-aware conditions using historical climate data from more than 9,000 weather stations and nearly 20 million sample points. Instead of reproducing real-time weather, it delivers conditions that are statistically typical for the region and time of year, running in the background without requiring manual configuration.
Typical Weather is available for purchase via Parallel 42’s website, with Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace availability pending for both PC and Xbox. The full changelog for both updates can be found here.
