Microsoft Flight Simulator scenery developer Pyreegue has updated its recently released Birmingham Airport to v1.0.9. The update comes in response to a request from Birmingham Airport Ltd, the rights holder of the real-world facility. While the scenery had temporarily disappeared from Contrail, it has since returned.
Branding Changes for Compliance
Just weeks ago, it was noted in the developer’s Discord server that Birmingham Airport Ltd had reached out to Pyreegue, claiming that the scenery violated their trademarked names “Birmingham Airport” and “BHX”. In response, Pyreegue removed the airport from the store, eliminated the offending materials, and republished the scenery with an altered logo.

The revised version of the scenery adopts a new look to meet trademark requirements. It appears somewhat reminiscent of the previous logo used in the early 2000s. Furthermore, the developer was made to change the name of the scenery from “Birmingham Airport” to “EGBB – Birmingham” in an additional effort to ensure compliance with all trademarks.
Community Reaction
The developer stated that “the airport got a refreshed look to ensure full compliance with all trademarks and removed all the allegedly infringing material“, which provoked a substantial reaction from the community. One user inquired why “companies don’t capitalise on things like this”, referring to the indirect promotion the airport gains through its original branding. To gauge the full community response, you can read the developer’s post on Facebook here.
Pyreegue’s Birmingham Airport scenery is now once again available for purchase on the Contrail store. For those interested, the statement from the developer can be read here. Stay tuned to FSNews for upcoming previews of Pyreegue’s Palma de Mallorca Airport (LEPA), which the developer teased on Facebook.
