The president of VATSIM, the largest air traffic control network, Tim Barber, has shared a statement via the VATSIM Blog about the recent release of FlyByWire Airbus A380 for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
It has been emphasized that VATSIM is a simulation network, and not a gaming network, and with the A380 being released, it is important for the virtual pilots to follow certain rules on the network. The A380 release was a large event, and even three days after the release, the effects can be easily visible, with Dubai Airport being completely full, with hundreds of aircraft movements at all times.
VATSIM took this into consideration and mentioned that pilots should only utilise the superjumbo at airports where it is actually allowed to operate in real life. This is based on the VATSIM’s Code of Conduct [sections B8(a) and B8(b)], stating that the pilot must be proficient with the operation of their aircraft and be capable of complying with ATC instructions.
The pilots also need to familiarise themselves with the airspace and airport procedures, to ensure that the A380 is capable of flying to their desired airport. Despite that, people fly an A380 to London City Airport on the network.
It is important for the network flow to familiarise yourself with the systems of the aircraft first, and take it to the network after you are confident enough. There are also documents, mentioning all the A380 compatible airports, officially published by Airbus, which you can find here.
