DominicDesignTeam have released Albuquerque (KABQ) Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. It’s their latest scenery release, bringing Albuquerque International Sunport to MSFS. KABQ is the primary international airport serving the state of New Mexico, handling millions of passengers a year.
About Albuquerque International Airport (KABQ)
Albuquerque International is locally known as the Sunport, and primarily serves New Mexico with over 400 flights daily. Annually, it handles around 5.4 million passengers and is located in Bernalillo County. It’s a big airport for Southwest Airlines, accounting for over half of all passengers at Albuquerque Airport. It is also served by several other major airlines, including Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Sun Country and United Airlines.

The airport has had its terminal expanded several times since it was built. In 1973, a west wing was added with the ability to accommodate a wide-body aircraft. From 1987 to 1989, the terminal was renovated to add a second level. It has three runways, with the longest being 13,793ft long and can accommodate a range of aircraft types.
DominicDesignTeam’s Albuquerque Airport (KABQ)
DominicDesignTeam have created their rendition of Albuquerque Airport using PBR textures, accompanied by realistic ground markings across the airport. The developers have also “painstakingly” hand-crafted custom pavement with lots of imperfections and dirt visible. Dynamic lighting has also been included, creating a more immersive, dynamic scenery to account for the time of day.

Looking inside the terminal, a detailed interior has been included along with custom passenger animations. Jetways have also been hand-crafted and accompany the many custom bus, passenger, and object animations across the airport. Taking into account the performance of the scenery, the developers have adjusted the LODs to help increase performance and FPS.
Albuquerque International Sunport is available now via the iniBuilds Store for €19.38. You can find out more about DominicDesignTeam’s previous releases for both MSFS and X-Plane here on FSNews, such as their McCurdy Airport release for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
