Echo 19 Audio Production took to their blog to announce the release of their Precision Audio Pack for the P-51 Mustang for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The pack aims to deliver an unparalleled auditory experience for simmers for the greatest immersion.
The Precision Audio Pack
The core of the P-51 Mustang is the iconic Packard Merlin engine famous for its distinctive growl and high performance. The team captured high-definition recordings of the engine in collaboration with Pole Position Production, resulting in a sound set that authentically recreates every nuance. From the initial startup rumble and cockpit rattle to the robust roar at full throttle.
Another standout feature, according to the team, is the advanced flyby sound effects that have been engineered. It has been designed the replicate the thrill and sensation of hearing a Mustang fly past at an airshow and thus features realistic distance attenuation and the iconic “gun-port” whistles unique to the P-51. This ensures every flyby experienced in the sim is heard and felt, adding another layer to the sound experience.
Cockpit Precision and Compatibility
The team has also invested significant effort in enhancing the cockpit audio environment in collaboration with Erickson Aircraft Collection in Madras, Oregon. Echo 19 makes use of cutting-edge spatial audio recording techniques and the pack delivers a precise placement of sounds. It reacts dynamically to pilot actions and every detail has been crafted to provide an authentic recreation of the real-world aircraft.
Furthermore, the team has also ensured that the sound pack is compatible with multiple versions of the aircraft’s renditions. While understanding the community’s diverse preferences, the audio pack was initially designed for Aeroplane Heaven’s P-51D but also seamlessly integrates with the Reno P-51D from the MS/Asobo Reno expansion as well as the default MSFS2024 version.
About the Mustang
The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang is an American long-range, single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber aircraft used primarily during the Second World and Korean Wars. It was designed in 1940 by a team led by James Kindelberger of NAA in response to British Purchasing Commission requirements.
After eventually developing into the P-51B/C after many iterations, it became the first long-range fighter to compete with the Luftwaffe’s fighters. The definitive version, the P-51D, was powered by the supercharged Merlin 66 engine and was armed with six .50 caliber AN/M2 Browning machine guns.
