FlightFX Publishes “Meaningful” Citation 750 Update and Announces Planned Release Window

FlightFX has published a substantial update on its in-progress Citation 750 (Citation X) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. FlightFX, known for their Piaggio P180, Honda Jet, and Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet, state that they plan to “overdeliver on launch day” with this much-anticipated business jet. The FlightFX C750 for MSFS has been in development at least since late 2023, and although much progress has been made, FlightFX states they are still “a little behind” where they wanted to be.

FlightFX C750 Affected by MSFS 2024

FlightFX stated that the development of the Citation 750 for MSFS was delayed significantly by the release of MSFS 2024. In order to work on core items in the new sim, FlightFX’s team was “pulled apart” prior to its release in November. While their team has “got settled” now with the release of the Piaggio P180, FlightFX has decided to expand the scope of the C750 upon release to take advantage of learning moments from their recent MSFS 2024 experiences.

These new additions and improvements are the primary reason for the C750’s delay. FlightFX now plans to add enhanced tablet functionality, throttle calibration, interactive cabins, and more – all up to the standards of the P180. They are further improving the flight model & avionics, overhauling the pressurization system, implementing custom anti-ice and reverser logic, and implementing numerous improvements to hydraulic, electrical, and environmental systems.

3D Polish and C750 Release Date

FlightFX provided further details on visual refinements being undertaken prior to the release of the C750 for MSFS 2024. These include numerous texture and geometry improvements to the exterior of the aircraft, as well as closing visual gaps, adding missing decals, and enabling dynamic tail registration. Wear & tear effects have been enhanced along with improvements to the cabin and lighting, and FlightFX has also taken the time to improve animations on items such as engine fan wobble and desynchronizing the beacon lights for a more realistic appearance.

FlightFX said that this is shaping up to be their “most complete aircraft yet.” FlightFX personnel explained the delay, stating in their Discord that when they “…put it down to deal with [MSFS]24 a lot was learned. Coming back with fresh eyes also makes you want to change and undo some of your work.”

While the principal development work on the C750 has been completed and the aircraft is now “feature locked,” FlightFX states that this remaining polish, most of which is related to their visuals, has pushed their release schedule back a few weeks. FlightFX announced in this update that the aircraft is currently trending toward a release in May of 2024 for both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. They stress, however, that their top priority is quality – and if that means moving the release date to achieve that goal, then it will push further into 2024.
