Magknight Releases Major Update for 787 for X-Plane 12; Announces New Collaboration

Magknight has released a v1.11.0 update for their Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner project for X-Plane 12.

Magknight has taken to the X-Plane.org forums to release an update for its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner project for X-Plane 12 that brings it up to v1.11.0. This update features various improvements, new features, and bug fixes to enhance the flight simulation experience. This update is designed to integrate more effectively with the capabilities of X-Plane 12, offering updates to both the flight dynamics and the aircraft’s systems. Magknight has also hinted at a potential collaboration with another developer that could shape the future of its 787.

Key Future Partnership

Magknight has revealed that it has been approached by another development team with a proposal to collaborate on advancing the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner project. We do not know who that team is yet specifically, but we can expect a future announcement from the new partner down the track. The partnership with the new development team would build upon the existing work to develop a high-fidelity version of the aircraft, leveraging the strengths and expertise of both teams. Hence, we can expect a positive prospect for this project.

This collaboration is expected to contribute additional resources and technical expertise to enhance the quality of the addon. We can also expect a potential acceleration in the development process. Hence, bringing a more detailed and sophisticated version of the aircraft to the X-Plane community.

Updated 787 Features

Stability Improvements

Moving on now to the key feature that was highlighted in this announcement. Firstly, during the initial phases of the development, Magknight found an unexpected issue with its existing 787-9 build. This has to do with the stability of the addon. In summary, while testing a new ACF file intended for a ‘C’ spec rebuild, the development team discovered that it addressed several critical stability issues, which were previously encountered in the transition from X-Plane 11 to X-Plane 12. This discovery has led to a more stable version of the aircraft, which can withstand the performance pressure of a long-haul flight.

As a result, this updated build has replaced the earlier, less stable version referred to internally as the ‘B’ spec. The success of this build will provide a foundation for continued development and improvement. Hence, allowing Magknight to refine the addon.

Plans For The Future

Looking ahead, Magknight plans to release this improved build, now renamed Aviators XP12, to the community. This version will initially include the 787-9, with the 787-8 expected to follow soon. Additionally, efforts are underway to complete and potentially release the 787-10, which is currently in a partially finished state.

The Aviators XP12 build is designed to match the functionality of the latest X-Plane 11 counterpart. This includes the reactivation of several previously disabled features, such as Hoppie CPDLC and the cabin PA system. While this build may not represent the final iteration of the project, Magknight intended to provide a stable and functional version of the aircraft that will be maintained in the future.

Simultaneously, Magknight’s development efforts will focus on a new ‘C’ spec version of the 787-9 Dreamliner. This version will be a comprehensive redevelopment of the previous version, incorporating the latest X-Plane 12 features and building upon the lessons learned from previous iterations. Magknight’s goal is to deliver a higher-quality product with minimal additional cost to existing users. Hence, ensuring that the community will continue to receive their value from an ongoing project.

In summary, the latest release of v1.11.0 update marks a significant step forward for the Magknight Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner project in X-Plane 12. With a new collaborative partnership in place and a more stable build available, Magknight is set to be well-positioned to continue enhancing and refining the aircraft.
