Asobo Studio and Microsoft have just released Sim Update 4 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, bringing a multitude of performance improvements and bug fixes for the simulator itself, career mode, as well as many of the included aircraft. This update also brought the inclusion of the long-awaited Red Bull Air Races.
Performance and stability improvements include optimizations to the main CPU thread, CPU code for event displays, scenery object culling, airports, ATC, aircraft, boat/road traffic, and more. Overall performance has seen a great improvement, according to some of the feedback on the MSFS forums. Several crashes in various systems, including the ATC, smart camera, flight planner, airport vehicle simulation, and many others have also been fixed in this update.

There have been several improvements to aircraft, including the addition of full inertia tensor support for the physics model, which is used on the C-17 and Extra 330. All of the default Working Title avionics have received bug fixes and performance improvements. Almost every single default plane included in the simulator has received an update fixing bugs, improvements, and performance optimizations.
Career mode has also received some bug fixes and improvements. Some of these include an improvement to the automatic pushback, a fix that prevents missions from selecting airports close to the aircraft’s altitude ceiling, a fix to a mission failure when crashing right after skipping to shutdown, and the addition of a reward compensation for when the game crashes during a mission, among many others.

One last notable addition with Sim Update 4 is the Red Bull Air Races, which were meant to be included with the sim since launch, but have been unavailable until now. The Red Bull Air Races can be accessed from the activities menu and include stages in Abu Dhabi, Budapest, Rio de Janeiro, Monument Valley, and other locations around the world.
