PMDG took to their YouTube channel yesterday to announce the release of their rendition of the Boeing 737-800 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 with a launch trailer. The port from the 2020 version to the 2024 version has been long-awaited and highly anticipated among the flight sim community and has now been released.

What’s New?

PMDG’s 777s had already been ported to the 2024 version of MSFS, and the 737 series was seemingly next on the roster in PMDG’s dev timeline. The previous 2020 version was not compatible with the newer sim and often resulted in CTDs and other game-breaking issues. This port to MSFS2024 ensures compatibility with the new platform, along with some native features and other improvements.

That’s right, the PMDG 737 is now fully supported in MSFS2024 and brings with it many of its native features, such as better lighting, atmospheric effects, improved exterior textures, modeling, walkaround features, and much more. The walkaround feature now means that many parts of the aircraft can be interacted with from the outside view, such as the passenger doors, the GPU port, the cargo door, the fueling panel, and more.

With the new version, the aircraft also receives some improvements to its interior. Certain cockpit elements have been re-textured, the cabins for all three variants (cargo, passenger, and BBJ) have been overhauled, where many elements can be interacted with, and a dynamic soundset that changes based on your location in the cabin.

The soundset also receives an overhaul and is one of the highlights of the new update. Engine, cockpit, cabin ambience, APU sounds, and many other tidbits in the soundset have been swapped out for a newer, more accurate version that is more reflective of its real-world counterpart. The new, updated soundset was developed in collaboration with Echo19 Audio Production, who “worked hand-in-glove” with PMDG’s in-house dev team. This collaboration with Echo19 will also be reflected in their work on their existing 777s and the upcoming 747-100/400.

Closing Notes

The much-anticipated MSFS2024 version of the PMDG 737-800 has finally been released, and there are two options for simmers to get it. If you are already an owner of the MSFS2020 version of the aircraft, you are eligible for a 60% discount on the retail price of buying new, which turns out to be a USD30 upgrade fee. If you are a fresh PMDG 737-800 customer, the shiny new aircraft will set you back USD74.99, inclusive of taxes. It is available on the PMDG website to purchase.
