SoFly has announced the development of Cardiff Airport (EGFF) for X-Plane 12, marking the developer’s first step into the platform with a detailed rendition of the main gateway to Wales.

Developed in collaboration with SunStudios, the scenery aims to bring Cardiff Airport to life with a strong focus on accuracy and immersion. The airport layout has been carefully recreated to reflect real-world data, ensuring that taxiways, stands, and surrounding areas match their real-life counterparts.

The add-on takes advantage of X-Plane 12 latest rendering technology, featuring high-quality textures and detailed modelling throughout the airport. From the terminal buildings to the airside environment, the scenery captures the distinctive look and atmosphere of Cardiff Airport. Ground operations are also represented with a range of static elements and service equipment, helping to create a more dynamic apron environment.

Weather effects are expected to play a significant role in the overall experience. Wet ground surfaces, reflections, and seasonal variations such as snow-covered areas and winter operations add an extra layer of realism, making each flight feel slightly different depending on the conditions.
SoFly has also confirmed the inclusion of SAM jetways across multiple gates, ensuring compatibility with widely used X-Plane utilities. In addition, several areas around the airport have been made accessible and detailed, including locations such as British Airways’ maintenance facilities, giving users more opportunities to explore beyond the cockpit.

Cardiff Airport XP for X-Plane 12 is expected to release soon. While no exact release date or pricing has been confirmed yet, more information, including a full trailer, is expected in the coming days. For more flight simulation news and updates, be sure to check out other articles on FSNews.
