Carenado has released the T-34B Mentor for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, adding a classic military primary trainer to the platform’s expanding aircraft lineup. The add-on is available exclusively through the in-sim Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace and is compatible only with MSFS2024.

The release brings a historically significant training aircraft into the simulator, with a focus on traditional flight instruction, manual handling, and procedural flying. It is positioned to support both structured training scenarios and general flight operations within the simulator’s updated career framework.

Aircraft Background and Operational Role

The Beechcraft T-34B Mentor served for decades as a primary flight training aircraft, particularly within U.S. Navy and allied military programs. Its design emphasized stability, predictable handling, and disciplined flying technique, making it suitable for ab initio military training.

The aircraft’s straightforward systems and conventional cockpit layout required pilots to rely on basic airmanship, visual references, and manual power management. These characteristics made the T-34B a foundational platform for pilots transitioning to more complex military aircraft.

Simulation Design and Cockpit Implementation

Carenado’s MSFS2024 rendition preserves the aircraft’s classic cockpit layout and external geometry while integrating modern simulator features for stability and performance. The cockpit reflects a traditional analog environment, with operational circuit breaker panels, emergency landing gear extension, and a functional canopy jettison system.

A tablet based interface allows users to select between different navigation system configurations, including GNS and GTN options. This approach provides flexibility while maintaining the aircraft’s original training oriented character.

The add-on includes Carenado’s RealXperience effects, such as attitude indicator startup behavior, subtle instrument movement, and cockpit vibration, intended to enhance system feedback without altering aircraft handling characteristics.

Performance Characteristics

The simulated T-34B is configured with a higher power 285 horsepower engine variant. Published performance figures include a cruise speed of approximately 145 to 150 knots, with maximum speeds approaching 185 to 190 knots.

The aircraft offers an estimated range of 750 to 800 nautical miles, a service ceiling near 18,000 feet, and a climb rate exceeding 1,200 feet per minute. These figures place it well within the expected performance envelope for advanced primary training and cross-country operations.

Career Mode Integration and Liveries

The T-34B is fully compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 career activities, including First Flight, Ferry Flight, and Flightseeing missions. This allows the aircraft to be used within structured progression paths rather than limited to free flight scenarios.

The package includes eight liveries plus one unpainted white variant, supporting both military-style operations and neutral training use.

Availability and Platform Notes

The Carenado T-34B Mentor is available only through the Microsoft Flight Simulator in-game Marketplace and requires Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. It is not compatible with earlier versions of the simulator.

As with other Carenado releases, the product represents the developer’s interpretation of real-world flight behavior within a simulation environment and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the original aircraft manufacturer.
