Miltech Simulations, the developers behind the C-17 default aircraft in MSFS 2024, have updated the community via their discord server regarding compatibility with MSFS 2024. This update also includes their future roadmap and their Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 releases.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Strategy
Miltech first stated thatย ALLย of their products from MSFS 2020 will require an update to work correctly in MSFS 2024. They emphasised that “porting” add-ons from 2020 will not be supported and will likely bring many bugs.

While simmers may be excited to jump in on day one with their favourite Miltech add-on, the developers have said that no updates will be made on release day. This is because the team need time to test the new simulator. Miltech needs to ensure it is stable and ready for product updates.
In line with what many other developers are offering, Miltech add-ons from MSFS 2020 will be updated for free for customers who are looking to use them in 2024. This gives simmers some stability and won’t have to spend any extra on existing add-ons.
MSFS 2024-specific features such as walkarounds, checklists, and career mode may come in a future update. This is subject to demand, so if the community wants these features, Miltech will look to introduce them into their add-ons.
Native MSFS 2024 “V2” products, which are aircraft products built natively for 2024, will become available in the future and be subject to an additional cost. These native releases will take advantage of the simulator’s top new features and new technology.
Product releases for both MSFS 2020 and 2024 will continue into next year. There is already a plan to release an unannounced aircraft by the end of the year. Their announced products, such as the U2 and CH53, are currently scheduled for 2025.
At this time, Miltech has been unable to test the new “streaming of content” on MSFS 2024. For now, they continue to recommend that all add-ons be fully downloaded from the Marketplace. There is concern that streaming certain content may affect its function, like their carrier add-ons.
Miltech Simulations MSFS 2024 Roadmap
Day one releases only include the C-17 Globemaster which is being released as a default aircraft for MSFS 2024. This will be the only release and update until the developers can confirm the stability of the simulator.
It has been recommended by Miltech that customers from the Marketplace are not to use the “ported” versions they may receive. This is because they are likely to contain bugs. Miltech is working to ensure that the Marketplace team does not automatically port over their add-ons.
Within the first couple of weeks, the CH47 and MV22 will be among the first to receive updates to 2024. Updates can be found at ORBX or the Miltech Simulations website. The C-17 will also receive its first update in the first two weeks. Updates will continue to roll out slowly over time.
After this, around three to four weeks following day one, their other products will receive updates as required. These include the likes of their Supercarrier Pro and UK carriers, which need significant changes to work reliably. The C-17 will also continue to receive updates as required.
Late December will see the release of an unannounced aircraft for both 2020 and 2024. This will be followed by releases of their announced products in 2025, updates to implement 2024-specific features and native “V2” releases.
MSFS 2024 & Products
Miltech has stated that price drops and adjustments may occur, in preparation for the release of MSFS 2024 on their older add-ons. These price drops will occur for MSFS 2020 products as the developers push forward with updating existing add-ons for 2024 and releasing new ones.
There are several new features coming to MSFS 2024 with one being a “renting” feature. This allows you to rent an add-on for a period of time before you commit to buying it. Miltech has confirmed that they will be offering this on their add-ons but will not support free trials.
Currently, there are still some rumours that career mode will only be open to Marketplace add-ons. This, however, has not been confirmed, so Miltech can not say much on this currently. This will also only be considered after all conversion work has been completed for MSFS 2024.
Discontinued products include the George W. Bush and USS Lexington Carriers, which will not be updated for MSFS 2024. The Amphibious Ready Group V2 update is already in progress, with a conversion to become available after the 2024 simulator release.
As confirmed by the Microsoft Marketplace team, weapon depiction will now be allowed but will remain inoperable. Miltech will be using this update to add cosmetic weapon depictions to their aircraft and carrier products.
Miltech has also stated that there is currently still no ETA for the U2, CH53 or Aerial Refuelling Pro and that the scope of these products has changed. Releases for these products will happen when they are ready and are able to be released under any contractual agreements.
