MSFS June Dev Update: Boeing 707 Local Legend, USA City Updates and More

Lots of new information has been revealed in the MSFS June 2024 development stream, including a new Boeing 707 Famous Flyer, The Douglas C-47 and Waco CG-4A Famous Flyers, new city updates for Las Vegas and the Northeast USA, news regarding MSFS2024’s aircraft, and much more.

Famous Flyer 9: Douglas C-47D & Waco CG-4A

In celebration of D-Day’s 80th anniversary, Asobo has released the Douglas C-47D and the Waco CG-4A glider. The C-47D was the military variant of the legendary Douglas DC-3 and it was a tool essential to the success of the allies, as they dropped around 13,100 American paratroopers during the invasion of Normandy in WWII.

The Waco CG-4A was a military troop/cargo glider that was usually towed by C-47s and could carry 13 troops or a variety of cargo. While not talked about as much as the C-47, the CG-4 was also quite important during these missions, as they helped carry just under four thousand infantrymen and other essential resources to battle.

These two aircraft have been developed by Aeroplane Heaven and are available now for MSFS as a bundle via the in-game marketplace for $14.99 USD. Microsoft will be donating 100% of the sales of this bundle made between June 6, 2024 and July 5, 2024 to the USO, a nonprofit organization that supports US military service members and their families all around the world.

City Update 8: Las Vegas

In celebration of FSExpo 2024, a City Update for Las Vegas, Nevada is coming on June 22. In its very short segment on the stream, Jorg Neumann mentioned that this city update will add “The Globe” (likely referring to The Sphere) and will add lights to The Strip, along with all the other expected improvements from an MSFS city update like photogrammetry buildings and terrain.

City Update 9: United States Northeast

In celebration of United States independence day, a city update for various cities in the US Northeast is planned for release on July 2nd. While Jorg couldn’t say exactly what cities would be coming in this city update, he said that they were trying to get a lot of cities done, and showed the US capital, Washington D.C. on stream.

Famous Flyer 10: Boeing 707-320C

Going along with City Update 9, Famous Flyer 10 will be what is likely one of the most influential passenger jets of all time, the Boeing 707, developed by Aeroplane Heaven. Introduced in 1958, the 707 was the first widespread jet airliner, essentially starting the jet age for commercial aviation as we know it. The 320C was the most widely produced variant, with 337 delivered; it featured a convertible passenger-freight configuration and Pratt & Whitney JT3D turbojets.

Top Gun: Maverick DLC Staying In Marketplace Until 07/25

The Top Gun: Maverick DLC originally released alongside the movie in May 2022 was going to be removed from the MSFS Marketplace on May 25th, 2024 as the licensing was expiring on that date. Jorg contacted Paramount Pictures to negotiate leaving this DLC in the marketplace and Paramount agreed, for now, to leave it up for two more months, while negotiations for additional extensions continued.

MSFS2024 Default Aircraft Developers

Asobo took the last few minutes of the stream to talk about the developers of the aircraft seen in the MSFS2024 trailer released in June of 2023. FlightFX and iniBuilds were confirmed as developers of some of the default aircraft in prior development streams, and with this stream, Carenado, Blackbird, and DC Designs have been added to the list of default aircraft developers for the new sim.
