PMDG Updates 737NG Fleet for MSFS 2024

PMDG has released a new update for its Boeing 737NG fleet in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, addressing WASM crash issues and improving overall stability.

PMDG has released a new update for its Boeing 737NG fleet for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The update is now available through the PMDG Operations Center and applies to the 737-600, 737-800, and 737-900 variants.

According to PMDG, the latest builds are interim updates intended to prepare the aircraft lineup for a larger upcoming detail update. This future update has been in development since the release of the 737-800 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 late last year.

Improvements Target WASM Crash Issues

One of the main focuses of the update is addressing WASM crash issues that some users have experienced. PMDG explained that these crashes appear to be linked to instability in how Microsoft Flight Simulator allocates dynamic memory for third-party add-ons.

Over the past month, the developer has been analyzing customer data and investigating possible solutions. As a result, the latest update introduces several changes intended to reduce the likelihood of these crashes occurring.

During this process, PMDG also identified a specific flight-path editing scenario that could trigger late-flight WASM crashes. The issue was related to modifying the flight path after sequencing the first fix on a STAR. Additional protections have now been implemented to prevent this situation.

The developer emphasized that these improvements are intended to reduce the frequency of WASM crashes while the team continues to wait for a potential platform-level solution.

Exterior Model Detail Update Coming Soon

PMDG also provided an update regarding the planned exterior model detail upgrade for the 737NG fleet in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

When the aircraft was first released for the new simulator platform in December, PMDG mentioned that a visual detail update was already in development. The upcoming update aims to take better advantage of the MSFS 2024 platform while increasing the level of exterior model detail compared to the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 version.

The update is currently in final testing, and PMDG hopes to release it by the end of the month. Although the update was originally expected in late February, the developer decided that additional work was required in several key areas before approving the release.

The improved exterior model will debut with the upcoming 737-700 variant for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Afterward, the updated model will be rolled out to the 737-600, 737-800, and 737-900 variants.

777 Update Also in Testing

Although the announcement focuses primarily on the 737NG fleet, PMDG also confirmed that a new update for the 777 series is currently being tested.

The upcoming 777 update will include a variety of improvements accumulated since the previous update released in September. It will also integrate the same WASM crash mitigation changes introduced in the latest 737 update.
