efbX Showcased SimBrief, GSX and Free Base Tier for MSFS

efbX brings SimBrief integration, GSX support, a dedicated app ecosystem and a free base tier to MSFS and MSFS 2024, with release planned for Q4 2026.

The team behind efbX has officially Showcased its next-generation Electronic Flight Bag platform for Microsoft Flight Simulator and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, with a planned release window scheduled for Q4 2026.

Announced during FSExpo Friday, efbX is being positioned as far more than a traditional Electronic Flight Bag. Rather than serving as a standalone utility focused solely on flight planning, the platform aims to bring together simulator data, operational tools, third-party services and custom applications within a single connected ecosystem. The project is designed to replicate real-world airline workflows while giving simmers a highly customizable environment that can adapt to different aircraft types and styles of flying.

Bringing Real-World Airline Workflows to MSFS

One of the key messages throughout the presentation was the project’s strong connection to real-world aviation. Promotional material describes efbX as being created by a real-world airline captain, with the platform designed around operational procedures and workflows used in modern airline environments.

According to creator KatiePilot, the goal is to reduce the complexity often associated with virtual airline operations by placing the tools pilots need in a single environment. The platform is intended to provide a more realistic and immersive experience while maintaining the flexibility required by different users and aircraft.

The team believes that by bringing briefing tools, fuel management, planning resources and operational information together, simmers can focus more on flying and less on managing multiple disconnected applications.

More Than a Traditional Electronic Flight Bag

Throughout the reveal, efbX was consistently presented as more than a standard Electronic Flight Bag. The platform has been designed as a fully connected environment where applications, simulator data and external services can communicate with one another.

Rather than switching between multiple programs, websites and devices, users will be able to access a wide range of functionality through a single interface. The platform is designed to support different workflows, allowing users to customize the experience according to their personal preferences and operational requirements.

The presentation repeatedly emphasized connectivity, flexibility and integration as the core pillars behind the project.

Deep SimBrief Integration and Flight Planning Tools

One of the headline features demonstrated during the announcement was deep SimBrief integration. Users will be able to retrieve flight plans, operational flight plans, fuel calculations and briefing packages directly within the efbX environment.

Several demonstrations showcased a workflow designed to streamline flight preparation, allowing pilots to access route information, airport data, weather information and operational documentation without relying on external browser windows.

The presentation also introduced a feature called “Brief Like a Pro,” designed to provide professional-style flight briefings and operational information. Screens shown during the reveal included briefing packages, flight documentation, airport information and planning tools inspired by real-world airline procedures.

Integrated Fuel Management and GSX Support

Fuel management is another major component of the platform. Demonstrations showed pilots reviewing detailed fuel calculations directly from their operational flight plans, including trip fuel, alternate fuel, contingency fuel and reserve fuel requirements.

The platform also introduces native GSX integration. Rather than using separate menus and interfaces, users will be able to interact with certain ground service functions directly through efbX. The demonstration included fuel ordering workflows, service coordination and the generation of digital fuel receipts documenting completed refueling operations.

By integrating these features directly into the EFB environment, efbX aims to create a more streamlined and immersive ground operations experience.

A Dedicated App Store for Flight Simulation

One of the most ambitious elements of the project is its dedicated application ecosystem. During the demonstration, the marketplace showcased a growing ecosystem of applications, including navigation tools, weather services, flight tracking utilities, aviation news platforms and operational resources designed to work directly within the efbX environment.

The marketplace concept allows users to customize their EFB experience by installing additional applications according to their individual needs. Demonstrated categories included weather tools, navigation resources, briefing utilities, community content and operational services.

This approach transforms efbX from a traditional Electronic Flight Bag into a platform capable of expanding over time through new integrations and third-party development.

Weather, Traffic and Operational Awareness

The presentation also highlighted a variety of situational awareness tools designed to support pilots before and during flight operations. Demonstrations included weather products powered by Windy, live traffic visualization and advanced mapping tools integrated directly into the platform.

Several screens showcased traffic monitoring capabilities, route visualization and operational planning tools designed to provide pilots with relevant information without requiring additional software.

The ability to access weather data, traffic information and planning resources from a single interface reinforces the platform’s focus on creating a connected operational environment.

Built for Multiple Devices and Platforms

Multi-platform functionality was another major focus of the announcement. Promotional material demonstrated efbX running across multiple device types, including tablets, desktop systems and mobile devices.

The platform has been designed to provide a consistent experience regardless of hardware, allowing users to access their EFB environment from different devices while maintaining access to the same integrated ecosystem.

This flexibility is intended to support a wide variety of simulator setups, from single-monitor desktop configurations to more advanced home cockpit environments.

A Free Base Tier Confirmed for Q4 2026

efbX is currently targeting a release window in Q4 2026 for Microsoft Flight Simulator and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Visitors attending FSExpo can experience the platform firsthand at Booth 417, where the development team is providing live demonstrations throughout the event.

The developers have confirmed that additional details regarding supported integrations, premium features and future pricing will be revealed closer to launch. However, one important detail was confirmed during the presentation: the efbX Base Tier will remain permanently free of charge. Users interested in following the project or registering for future early-access opportunities can do so through the official efbX website.

Final Thoughts

With deep SimBrief integration, GSX connectivity, advanced briefing tools, weather products, traffic visualization, multi-platform support and a dedicated application ecosystem, efbX is positioning itself as one of the most ambitious Electronic Flight Bag projects currently in development for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

While many details remain to be revealed before its planned Q4 2026 release, the project has already attracted significant attention following its FSExpo debut. If the platform delivers on the vision demonstrated during the presentation, efbX could become a major addition to the flight simulation ecosystem in the years ahead.
